Report: Carrier VoIP Market Down 12% in 3Q11

Infonetics Research released excerpts from its third quarter 2011 Service Provider VoIP Equipment and Subscribers market share and forecast report.

“Seasonally the third quarter tends to be a weak one for the overall carrier VoIP equipment market, and 3Q11 was no exception,” notes Diane Myers, directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research. “No vendor is immune to the challenges of delayed orders and shifts in technology choices, although there were some standout performances by vendors in 3Q11 in specific segments, including Dialogic, GENBAND, Huawei, Metaswitch, and Sonus. Sequentially, all market segments are down in 3Q11, but from the year-ago quarter, there is one bright spot: session border controllers, with global revenue up 13%. The SBC and voice application controller segments are on track to be up in 2011, reflecting the continued shift to all-IP networks.”

Report: North American VoIP Access and SIP Trunking Services Markets

While overall adoption of SIP trunking has been a slow and steady movement forward in the last five years, the adoption rate has not met predictions. Issues around interoperability and limited standardization have restrained many service providers from gaining greater market penetration. Ongoing standardization efforts by major industry organizations such as the SIP Forum and SIP Connect are likely to eventually eliminate the need for multiple certifications on different platforms, which are time-consuming and costly. In the meantime, service providers are engaging in extensive interoperability testing with platform vendors, thus expanding their target customer audience.

Mobile VoIP Users to Reach 640m by 2016

juniper_research_logo.pngMobile VoIP specialists are expected to favour alliances with social media, gaming and software partners over partnerships with mobile network operators in coming years, as social media becomes ever more mainstream, finds Juniper Research.

Juniper Research anticipates that the role of voice within the broader communications market will change, and it will become increasingly available as an extension to other applications. Companies such as Vivox are pioneering such services in the gaming industry, and Skype's acquisition by Microsoft and several Facebook alliances with VoIP providers will accelerate this trend, finds the report 'Mobile Voice & Video Calling: Strategic Opportunities & Business Models 2011-2016'.

Report: Mobile VoIP Subscribers will Near 410 Million by 2015; VoLTE Still a Long Way Off

Infonetics Research released excerpts from its new Mobile VoIP Services and Subscribers report, which tracks native mobile voice over IP (a.k.a. voice over Long Term Evolution, or VoLTE) and over-the-top mVoIP service revenue, subscribers, and deployments by world region.

ANALYST NOTE

"The adoption of over-the-top mobile VoIP services is growing rapidly but it is not without challenges. With free applications and extremely low revenue from users, it is tricky for application providers without the deep pockets of larger companies like Google, Microsoft, and Telefónica to have a sustainable long-term business model. Despite the fact that we expect mobile VoIP subscribers to grow nearly 10-fold from 2010 to 2015, there is relatively little money to be made from it in the near term," poses Diane Myers, directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research.

Report: Infonetics Research ups its VoIP Services Forecast to $76 billion by 2015

Market research firm Infonetics Research today released excerpts from its latest VoIP and UC Services and Subscribers report, which tracks vendors and service revenue in the residential/SOHO and business VoIP and unified communications market.

ANALYST NOTE

"We've increased our short- and long-term forecasts for the voice over IP services market, as adoption in the residential, SOHO, and business segments continues unabated. The residential segment continues to make up the majority of VoIP services revenue, but the real growth is in the business segment, particularly SIP trunking services and hosted VoIP and unified communication services. Following a healthy 2010, the overall VoIP services market is on track to grow another 17% in 2011," expects Diane Myers, directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research.

Report: BT, TDC, Vodafone among top hosted business VoIP service leaders in EMEA

Infonetics Research released excerpts from its annual EMEA Business VoIP Services Leadership Scorecard, which analyzes and ranks the top service providers in the IP Centrex market in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

"In all parts of EMEA, including Africa and the Middle East, we continue to see strong deployments of IP Centrex services. In evaluating the top 10 IP Centrex providers across the region, little has changed in the mix of our list of leaders from 2010. All but three of the providers in our top 10 are incumbent operators, which is reflective of the EMEA landscape, where most providers compete nationally rather than regionally. Mobility continues to be a critical capability as businesses look towards flexibility and integration of services into a single mobile device. Those providers that are focused on FMC (fixed-mobile convergence) capabilities are true stand-outs, notes Diane Myers, directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research.

Report: Market Opportunity: mVoIP + Social + Presence

research_and_markets.gifResearch and Markets has announced the addition of the "Market Opportunity: mVoIP + Social + Presence" report to their offering. There is a unique opportunity, for a period of about three years, for certain so called Over-the-Top VoIP providers to offer social networking driven services that represent a low cost/no cost alternative to incumbent network operator's services.

More specifically, there is an opportunity for certain OTT VoIP providers to stand out from the crowd, gain market share, and attract the attention of acquiring incumbent wireless carriers. Those same mobile network operators need to recognize that a strategy to start with OTT Wireless VoIP is a bridge to "dialable" VoIP via LTE. They also need to recognize that OTT VoIP is also a longer term offering themselves, even in a ubiquitous LTE coverage environment (which will be many years in the making) as roaming partners will not necessarily have their own LTE coverage.

Report: Small Office Spend on Broadband IP Telephony to Increase 83% from 2010-2015

in-stat_logo.gifBroadband IP telephony is used to transport voice calls over an IP network, and, if need be, to connect to the PSTN. This looks like traditional telephone service to the end-user and, in the case of cable VoIP service, is often marketed as a “digital” voice service, leaving many users unaware that they are using a VoIP service. This has been a popular form of VoIP in both the work-at-home and small business arenas, and that trend will continue according to new In-Stat research, which forecasts that the small office (1 to 4 employees) spend on broadband IP telephony will increase by 83% from 2010-2015.
