Report: VOIP Providers - Market Size Information

research_and_markets.gifResearch and Markets has announced the addition of the "VOIP Providers" report to their offering.

VoIP specifies the transmission and reception of audio over the Internet. A connection between caller and call recipient is established using the SIP. SIP has many functions, including negotiating the codecs used during the call, transferring calls, and terminating calls. Over the past five years it has become increasingly difficult to keep an overview of all the worldwide operating VoIP services or Broadband phone providers. New VoIP / Broadband phone VoIP services are launching almost on a weekly basis and it has become almost impossible to compare PC to Phone and Broadband Phone service providers without weeks and weeks of time consuming research. Each VoIP provider proclaims to have the best service and the cheapest local, long distance or international VoIP phone rates, but the differences are still substantial (up to 1000%), although in most cases the VoIP services are cheaper than most traditional telephone companies. Choosing the right Voice over IP service for your specific need and calling pattern, especially if you make regular international calls can save you a small fortune every month.

Report: Business Mobile VoIP Usage to Approach 83 Million Lines/Seats in 2015

in-stat_logo.gifMobile VoIP is an extension of VoIP that allows for IP-based calls to be made from a mobile handset. Voice traffic travels over the available broadband connection, whether that connection is 3G, EDGE, Wi-Fi, or GPRS. Like fixed VoIP, mobile VoIP is being adopted in both the consumer and business segments, but has only recently begun to be implemented in the business environment. Yet growth rates are strong and by the end of the forecast period in 2015, users will have grown to nearly 83 million lines/seats, according to In-Stat.

Global Fixed Line VoIP Market Set to Generate $40 Billion a Year by 2015

Voice over IP now has over 120 million subscribers worldwide, according to the latest analysis from Point Topic, and its growth looks set to accelerate as predictions indicate a $40 billion annual VoIP market by 2015.

Point Topic's data revealed a global growth in VoIP of 12.6% during 2010 and shows that there is plenty of headroom left for VoIP * around the world.

"The growth of VoIP has been bumpy but shows signs of acceleration," said John Bosnell, Senior Analyst at Point Topic. "VoIP has all the hallmarks of a classic substitution commodity. This is where customers look at the service that is delivered by a new product and decide that it meets, or exceeds, the service they are currently receiving and when it is appropriately priced they will switch from one to the other."

IMS Market Up YoY as Move to All-IP grows; SBCs, VAS bright Spots in Carrier VoIP Market

Market research firm Infonetics Research released its first quarter 2011 IMS Equipment and Subscribers and Service Provider VoIP Equipment and Subscribers preliminary market share and forecast reports.

"Mobile is the big news in the IMS equipment market, with over half of all IMS equipment sold going to mobile networks in the first quarter of 2011. The impact of LTE is starting to kick in, particularly in North America, where IMS equipment is being implemented for LTE networks for subscriber registrations and mobile messaging services, and in Asia Pacific for enhanced services over 3G. We expect 2011 to be the year where LTE and network transformation projects start having an important impact on IMS. Meanwhile, the movement towards IMS and all-IP networks is having a reverse impact on legacy VoIP equipment such as softswitches and trunk media gateways," notes Diane Myers, directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research.

Report: VoIP Callers Talk More than Twice as Long as Mobile Phone Users

Openmind Networks announced results of a recent market study of mobile VoIP users. Openmind found that subscribers of its mobile VoIP and messaging solution, Portico are talking on average, over two and a half (2.5) times longer than the average mobile voice call. This trend is significant as it points to valuable revenue opportunities for mobile operators as they compete with Skype and other over-the-top service providers.

The study was carried out amongst Portico users from April 22nd through April 25th, 2011 over a busy holiday weekend. With Portico, users can make and receive calls and texts using their existing mobile number by using a personal webphone, accessed online from their mobile service provider’s portal. Users can make calls for the same cost of a local mobile call, even when abroad. The launch of the service has discouraged subscribers from using over-the-top services such as Skype and offers a more compelling user experience.
