SureWest VoIP Service Selects Alcatel-Lucent

SureWest announces the deployment of Alcatel-Lucent's IMS-based VoIP for Consumers solution to support its newly launched SureWest Digital Phone VoIP service in the Northern California region. SureWest Communications provides local telephone, long-distance, Internet, wireless, digital TV and commercial high-speed data services in Northern California and in the metropolitan Kansas City area.

Sogetel Expands Services to Include VoIP and IPTV

Sogetel has purchased Occam’s Broadband Loop Carrier 6000 solution to complete a significant upgrade to its network, enabling the service provider to offer VoIP and IPTV services to its subscribers. Sogetel maintains offices in Nicolet, St. Paulin, Lac Etchemin, St. Liboire and other locations in the province of Quebec.

Sogetel maintains 26,000 access lines and offers subscribers landline and wireless local and long distance phone service and high-speed broadband services. Engineers are deploying Occam equipment at more than 35 sites across Sogetel’s service area, with a plan to offer VoIP and IPTV over Occam BLC blades. Sogetel has purchased Occam’s BLC 6252 POTS and ADSL2Plus combo blade and BLC 6214 ADSL2Plus blade. Sogetel is also using BLC 6450 blades to accommodate 10G transport rings to accommodate IP traffic increases.

Survey Finds US Businesses Lagging in Securing VoIP

paper.gifAlthough VoIP may be on its way to widespread adoption, research indicates that many US businesses haven’t yet taken steps to increase security for VoIP systems, reports In-Stat. As businesses extend their IP telephony deployments to locations beyond the LAN, securing the VoIP infrastructure will become increasingly important, the high-tech market research firm says.

Recent research by In-Stat found the following:
  • Over 80% of survey respondents have deployed some type of VoIP solution in their companies.
  • Between 2007 and 2010, 168 million IP PBX lines will be shipped into the business premises.
  • Usage of collaboration and conferencing products that leverage VoIP is increasing.

Speakeasy VoIP Available Over Any Broadband Service

Speakeasy has historically required voice customers to use Speakeasy broadband service for best quality of service. This new broadband service offering was created to give small businesses more flexibility to fit their specific needs. Speakeasy's policy is different from other companies in the industry, who either require customers to use their broadband service, or only offer off-net voice services.

Speakeasy is continually looking to provide more viable communications options that meet the needs of small businesses. In 2005, Speakeasy launched its hosted VoIP service and recently announced Integrated Voice to accommodate customers who want keep their existing phone system.

Phonetime Expands Network to Meet Growing VoIP Demand

Phonetime is accelerating the expansion of its telecommunications network. This expansion comes as a direct result of two consecutive months of record revenue, totalling nearly $25 million, and the anticipated continued growth due to the integration of the recently acquired Symphony Telecom. The 2008 year-to-date revenue is 80% higher than the first two months of 2007 and already surpasses the entire Q1 - 2007 revenue of $21.3 million.

Phonetime has placed orders with Alcatel-Lucent, its main switching hardware provider, as well as other key suppliers for its VoIP network infrastructure in Toronto. Phonetime is also in the process of completing the move of its telecommunication switches into new network co-location facilities built specifically for them by Bell Canada. These new facilities are maintained by the same property management and security service used by Bell. The new space is double the size of Phonetime's previous location and allows for continued expansion into the foreseeable future.

Global Crossing to Connect Offices with VoIP Outbound in Brazil and Mexico
