Gizmo Project; VoIP Service Offers Lowest Price to Call U.S.

Gizmo Project, free voice communication software for your computer, announces 1 cent per minute calling to U.S. phones effective immediately.

This marks the lowest per minute rate for calling U.S. phone numbers. This new rate makes calling the U.S. twice as affordable as compared to Skype and Yahoo.

A comparison of per minute calling rates to U.S. phone numbers (as of 12/12/05):
  • Gizmo Project: 1 cent
  • Skype: 2.1 cents
  • Yahoo Messenger: 2 cents
  • MSN Messenger: 2.3 cents
  • AOL Instant Messenger: $18.99 per month + 4 cents per minute
  • Google Talk: Cannot call U.S. phones
"Phone calls are now like water. You know there's a cost, but you don't think about it every time you turn on the faucet," said Gizmo Project CEO Michael Robertson. "The era of annual commitments and monthly fees are going the way of the rotary phone."

Gizmo Project is free software for your computer that allows you to make and receive phone calls. Anyone can download the software at http://www.gizmoproject.com and call the world for free using their computer and a headset. Calls between Gizmo Project users are completely free, but calls to regular phones have a small per minute fee.

Since its debut in July 2005, Gizmo Project has had over 300,000 sign-ups and is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Gizmo Project members can purchase calling minutes on a "pay-as-you-go" basis with a credit card or using Paypal. There is no cost to sign-up, no contracts, and no monthly fees.

Gizmo Project is the most feature rich software available for voice calling and includes many advanced calling and communication features: free voicemail, free conference calling between regular phones and Gizmo Project, call recording, call forwarding, instant messaging, call mapping, call hold, and call blocking.
