Increasing Adoption of VoIP Solutions in Asia

CounterPath Solutions and Hana Micron announced that the companies have entered into co-marketing and reseller agreements.

Under the terms of the agreements, Hana Micron will be a representative of CounterPath's softphone products in the Korean market and CounterPath will be a representative of Hana Micron's VoIP products in the United States, Canada and all European markets.

The relationship not only creates new sales opportunities for both companies in their partner's primary markets, but includes a technical collaboration which will see the integration of superior and field-proven VoIP solutions by CounterPath with Hana Micron's VoIP products. Both parties have agreed to cooperate in entering the IP-TV market by co-developing VoIP solutions for TPS (Triple Play Services: High-speed Internet, Broadcasting, and Telephony).

Acquisition of Chinese VoIP Company

Crawford Lake Mining announced it has purchased 100% ownership of Jinan Yinquan Technology Co. Ltd, (‘Jinan”), a telecommunications technology company located in the Shandong Province of the People’s Republic of China, in exchange for 40,000,000 restricted shares of Crawford Lake common stock.

“This acquisition and expansion into the technology industry signifies our first effort in developing an international, high-tech business strategy for our Company,” said Li Kunwu, President and CEO of Crawford Lake. “Jinan Yinquan is a very aggressive company that now offers Voice over the Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) services to 17 cities in the Shandong Province. The current population in China is estimated at 1.3 billion people. The market potential for their state of the art NP Soft Switch System made this acquisition a very promising venture for us and our shareholders.”

Glofiish X500 Smartphone with VoIP from Skype

061031_X500.jpgTaiwanese handset maker E-Ten Information Systems has released a new mobile-based smartphone with GPS, computing capabilities with Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS, and VoIP software from Skype.

The Glofiish X500 has a slim design at just 15.5mm, which is a big selling point. The voice functions are also very nice. Glofiish offers quad-band GSM and EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution), as well as GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and EGPRS (Enhanced GPRS). It enables users to bypass their mobile phone company and use Skype when in a Wi-Fi hot spot.

Korea Telecom Chooses Acme Packet

Acme Packet announced that Korea Telecom, the largest service provider in Korea, is deploying the Net-Net session border controllers (SBCs) in its national VoIP network that connects its residential and business customers. The Net-Net products are being integrated with Korea Telecom's next generation IP softswitch platform to offer more enhanced services.

Call from Mobile Phone Service through Chinese Media in US

MINO Wireless, a Sunnyvale, CA-based mobile services company, announced a campaign to promote its International Call from Mobile Phone service through Chinese media in the US. MINO service makes international calls easy and affordable by using Internet (or VoIP) call technology. With MINO, users can call from the US to China from their mobile phones at 2.2 cents per minute. MINO’s ads are planned to appear in Chinese language print media Singtao and World Journal, on local TV station KTSF, which broadcasts ethnic programming, and on SVC and Singtao Radio. The print ads started running on June 1, 2006 and have drawn a large number of calls both in English and Chinese.

About 75 percent of the VoIP makers included in this report expect an increase of at least 94 percent in their output in the next 12 months. In Taiwan, volume production is forecast to reach 4.20 million units by end-2005, an increase of over 50 percent from 2004. Taiwan has about 50 VoIP product makers.
