Korea Telecom Chooses Acme Packet

Acme Packet announced that Korea Telecom, the largest service provider in Korea, is deploying the Net-Net session border controllers (SBCs) in its national VoIP network that connects its residential and business customers. The Net-Net products are being integrated with Korea Telecom's next generation IP softswitch platform to offer more enhanced services.

Acme Packet's SBCs are currently deployed in KT's network in Seoul, Korea, with a target to deploy in KT POPs in other major cities to offer VoIP and enhanced services in the future. Upon completion of the deployment, KT will be able to expand its current service offering of VoIP and high speed data with secure, high-quality multimedia IP services, all over its existing backbone infrastructure.

After a comprehensive evaluation, KT selected the Acme Packet Net-Net SBCs for its project due to their carrier-class capabilities such as high availability, capacity, security, performance and scalability. Adaptive hosted NAT traversal, as well as multiprotocol signaling support with interworking functionality, enables Korea Telecom to maximize its service reach, delivering premium IP communication services to business and residential subscribers. The Net-Net SBC security features, including access control and network topology hiding, help protect Korea Telecom's network from attack while ensuring high quality services to the end user.

"Korea Telecom's selection of Acme Packet to supply session border control for its NGN and new IP communication services enables KT to build a secure VoIP infrastructure capable of delivering high quality services," stated Andy Ory, president and CEO, Acme Packet. "KT understands that trusted and premium quality communication services are key differentiators as telecommunications continues to migrate to IP networks."
