Minnesota leaves Qwest for VoIP

Read at ITMJ

Several Minnesota government agencies appear to have recently decided to switch their phone system to utilize VoIP. This decision was made to allow all systems to use the same network and to make call routing a simpler task. This will lead to a reduction of roughly 15,000 phone line in the next couple of years.

The effect on Qwest might not be as bad as it seems at first. The government agencies still use Qwest lines for all their data lines and the remaning voice lines. It is said that the majority of lines that are scheduled to be canceled were running on old technology and that fewer modern lines will be dropped.
