SPIRIT DSP, the world's leading provider of embedded voice and communication software products, has released the latest edition of its TeamSpirit Mobile software solution - the fastest voice engine running on mobile devices. TeamSpirit Mobile provides a Voice Engine Software Development Kit (SDK) that incorporates complete voice engine functionality of a softphone for mobile devices.

"TeamSpirit Mobile accumulates more than 10 years of SPIRIT's extensive expertise in the voice processing domain. It will empower OEMs with unprecedented VoIP functionality and new powerful features, bringing softphone applications to mass-market mobile devices." - said Slava Borilin, VoIP Product Marketing Director of SPIRIT DSP. - "With TeamSpirit Mobile it becomes easy for the equipment manufacturers and mobile software developers to build feature-rich, easy-to-use softphone applications. These innovations will allow the end-users to quickly adopt Wi-Fi capabilities of their mobile phones and enjoy the benefits of VoIP communication. This is the industry's first voice engine that enables to run a VoIP application on devices with CPU clock rate of 200 MHz or less, for example, Qtek 8310, iPAQ 6340, and the like. TeamSpirit Mobile opens a much broader VoIP market for mobile OEMs and service providers than ever before."

TeamSpirit Mobile resolves the most challenging problems encountered in mobile IP applications: ensuring rich voice and quality video while having to do with system resources of a mobile device. The solution is optimized for appliances running under Windows Mobile 5.0, Windows Mobile 5.0 SmartPhone Edition, Windows PocketPC 2003, or Windows Smartphone 2003 operating systems. TeamSpirit voice engine has been specifically optimized for a dozen mobile platforms: OMAP 850, 1510, 1030 and others; Intel Xscale family; and any ARM9 processors starting from 168 MHz.

The solution bundle integrates optimized codecs, adaptive jitter buffer and PLC, voice enhancement components (Full-duplex Acoustic Echo Cancellation, Automatic Gain Control, Noise Suppression); supports built-in or 3rd party SIP stack, provides network support (RTP/RTCP) and call control API, integrates network and voice processing subsystems ensuring the lowest impact on CPU performance. It also provides the functionality required to ensure high quality voice exchange over Wi-Fi connections, and can be enhanced with video support using standard H.263 and H.264 video codecs. Examples of the devices that can run VoIP application powered by TeamSpirit Mobile are Qtek 8300/8310, Qtek S200, i-mate SP5 / SP5m, T-Mobile SDA, Dopod 577W, O2 Orion, T-Mobile MDAIV-Pro, Qtek 9000, Orange SPV M5000, O2 XDA Exec, i-mate JASJAR, Vodaphone VPA IV, HP iPAQ 6340, iPAQ 1950, and dozens of others.

Mobile VoIP is steadily gaining recognition in the business and consumer marketplace. According to In-Stat, the number of cellular/WLAN subscribers will exceed 256 million worldwide by 2009, or roughly 12% of all cellular subscribers. By 2009, the number of subscribers using WLAN for voice communication is expected to surpass those using WLAN for data only.
