Nortel Gets Courts Nod of Approval for Sale of its VoIP Business to Genband

Nortel_logo.jpgGENBAND announces that its agreement with Nortel to acquire substantially all assets of Nortel's Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions Business has been approved by bankruptcy courts in Canada and the United States.

GENBAND announced on Dec. 23, 2009 that it will purchase substantially all CVAS product platforms, all patents predominantly used and other IP exclusively used in Nortel’s CVAS business, including softswitching, gateways, SIP applications and TDM products and services. The agreement also provides for the transition of substantially all of Nortel's CVAS customer contracts to GENBAND. GENBAND anticipates closing the sale in the second quarter of 2010, which is subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.

Report: Mobile VoIP Users Will Approach 300 Million by 2013

In-Stat estimates the total number of mobile VoIP users will reach 288 million by the end of 2013. Of these, well over half will be associated with online mobile VoIP providers, under one-third will utilize mobile VoIP with 3G MVNOs or mobile operators, and 11% with WiMAX/LTE operators. On a geographic basis, mobile VoIP will be heavily biased towards the Asia Pacific region, particularly among the online mobile VoIP services.

REDCOM Successfully Completes SIP Interoperability Testing with Polycom IP Phones

REDCOM has completed SIP interoperability testing for REDCOM’s HDX and SLICE 2100 Carrier-Class 4/5 softswitches with a wide range of SoundPoint IP phones from Polycom.

REDCOM tested several Polycom SoundPoint IP models (320/321/330/450/550/560/650/670), as well as the VVX 1500 Business Media Phone for verification in REDCOM’s lab to ensure that the company’s HDX and SLICE 2100 softswitch solutions are fully interoperable. REDCOM successfully provided rigorous and comprehensive SIP interoperability testing in its company lab in Victor, which verified 100 percent integration and functionality between the Polycom VoIP phones and REDCOM’s HDX and SLICE 2100 SIP call control platforms.
