Vonage announces that the company has filed a motion for a review by the original three-judge panel or the full panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit sitting en banc of the September 26 decision in its patent litigation with Verizon. En banc signifies a decision by the full court of all the appeals judges in jurisdictions where there is more than one three- or four-judge panel.

On September 26, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit partially remanded a March 8 jury verdict in the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. that the company infringed on three Verizon patents. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit remanded the infringement verdict on the 880 patent and affirmed the verdict on one patent claim in each of the 574 and 711 patents. Further, the Court of Appeals vacated the entire award of $58 million in damages and the 5.5 percent royalty. The Court of Appeals remanded the case to the U.S. District Court and directed that the court retry those aspects of the original case.

Verizon received high marks from its customers to secure the spot as top wholesale VoIP provider, reflected in research by ATLANTIC-ACM, a leading telecommunications research consultancy and benchmarking firm. The company earned the top ranking in the Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier category of the Best in Class Wholesale Metro products. The announcement was made Monday (Oct. 8) at the CompTel PLUS Fall 2007 Convention and EXPO in Grapevine, where ATLANTIC-ACM announced its 2007 Global Wholesale Carrier Excellence Awards.

VIP Tone announces the award of a multi-year contract for VIP PBX services with Calaveras Unified School District. This is the third contract VIP Tone has been awarded with Northern California school districts in the last 12 months. Hayward Unified School District and Morgan Hill Unified School District are currently using the VIP PBX services from VIP Tone. As an integral part of their VoIP project, CUSD is deploying IP phones to all of the district locations and is also upgrading the district wide network infrastructure while deploying a wireless network in all district locations.

Sprint and Vonage announce that they have settled their ongoing patent dispute and entered into a licensing arrangement under Sprint's Voice over Packet ("VOP") patent portfolio. On September 25, 2007, a jury in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., found that Vonage had infringed six Sprint patents. The settlement agreement resolves all claims related to this dispute.

In addition, Sprint has agreed to license Vonage its VOP portfolio, which comprises more than 100 patents covering different methods, components and systems that efficiently connect telephone calls between a regular telephone network and a packet-switched network such as the Internet.

Ruckus Wireless announces that Truphone has deployed the Ruckus ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi system to support voice over Wi-Fi requirements within its corporate headquarters in London. Truphone is using the Ruckus ZoneFlex system within its corporate network to provide extended coverage and predictable Wi-Fi network services for some 40 staff that use its mobile Voice-over-IP technology to conduct day-to-day business.

Recently named a 2007 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, Truphone markets and operates critically-acclaimed technology that allows cell phones to route calls over the Internet using Wi-Fi rather than via traditional mobile operators. This enables users to make free mobile calls, send text messages, eliminate monthly fees and inbound charges.
