SK Telink Extends Acme Packet Deployment for Debut of IP International Calling

acme_packet_logo.jpgAcme Packet announce that South Korean competitive service provider SK Telink has deployed Acme Packet’s Net-Net 4500 session border controllers for use in their SK 00700 international calling and SK Speed 070 IP telephony services. The Net-Net 4500s are located at SK Telink’s access and interconnect borders and supplement existing Acme Packet SBCs that support SK Telink’s IP Centrex service.

SK Telink, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, is one of the leading operators in South Korea offering international calling services. They also offer retail VoIP services to South Korean companies and outsourced data center services for smaller IP telephony service providers. SK Telink currently services hundreds of thousands subscribers who generate hundreds of thousands calls per day from corporate VoIP endpoints.

With the Net-Net 4500 deployment, SK Telink is replacing its TDM-based interconnects with an end-to-end IP architecture, which it intends to leverage into additional and more diverse peering relationships. SK Telink’s initial IP peering arrangement is with a major global service provider. SK Telink selected Acme Packet for its powerful Net-SAFE security framework, as well as the ability for the Net-Net 4500 solution to address complex SIP interoperability challenges.

Acme Packet’s SBCs deliver rich functionality that SK Telink applies to extend service reach and secure its network and service infrastructure. SIP and SDP header manipulation applied at IP interconnect points normalizes signaling interactions between SK Telink and other service providers. The Acme Packet SBCs hide SK Telink’s internal topology from outsiders and prevent bad or malformed packets from infiltrating the service core. They also protect SK Telink’s access network and services by rate-limiting SIP signaling traffic and performing overload protection and protocol conformance verification to prevent service outages from DoS/DDoS attacks. Dynamic and static access controls are also configured to prevent fraudulent use or theft of SK Telink services.
