Siemens Offers Two New Devices with VoIP Functionality

Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices announced that it is offering two new Gigaset devices with integrated VoIP functionality to support the next generation of communications. The Gigaset S450 IP combines traditional voice with Internet voice in a single, easy-to-use device. The Gigaset SX762 WLAN dsl gateway offers a single point of entry into the home for telephony, Internet, networking and home entertainment. Both products, key elements of Siemens vision of seamless communication and transparent operations within the home, are expected to be demonstrated at NXTcomm in Chicago during June 18-21.

The Gigaset S450 IP is a hybrid cordless communications system that supports connections for both fixed-line (PSTN) and LAN networks. This allows it to be used as both a conventional analog as well as a digital voice (over IP) phone. Now service providers can easily and conveniently offer all of the benefits of digital voice without the need of a PC. Configuring the device is just as easy as using it. If the phone is not already pre-configured with the provider’s VoIP settings, simple and intuitive menus guide the user to input these settings for rapid configuration.

The Gigaset S450 IP contains the same features and functions that users worldwide have come to expect and appreciate from the Gigaset brand. In addition to an illuminated color display and key pad with intuitive graphical menus, six handsets can be supported and up to 150 contact entries can be stored at any one time. Any of the available Siemens Gigaset DECT 6.0 handsets can be used with the S450 IP.

The Gigaset SX762 WLAN dsl gateway provides users with IP video, Internet access, telephony, WLAN and LAN networking capabilities, resulting in an all-in-one compact and powerful communications solution for the home. The gateway is an integrated telephone system and a firewall solution that adds convenience and enhanced security. Included is a remote management feature, which allows operators to remotely manage and support the gateway to best achieve their subscriber’s quality of service.

The Gigaset SX762 WLAN dsl has a range of features including a wireless Internet router, integrated ADSL2+ modem, a USB 2.0 Host port, two analog phone interfaces and four Ethernet ports for networking PCs. The solution offers fast wireless networking compliant to IEEE standard 802.11g for up to 54 Mbps and includes firewall features that utilize modern encryption methods such as WPA/WPA2 to protect from unauthorized access. This new solution offers conventional wireline (PSTN) as well as digital voice (over IP) telephony with support for up to six different VoIP profiles.

The Gigaset SX762 WLAN dsl is compatible with the entire range of Siemens’ Gigaset DECT 6.0 cordless phones, as well as having the ability to support existing analog phones. This offering from Siemens distinguishes itself from similar products by its outstanding voice quality, superb feature set and high broadband connection speeds.

“Bridging the gap between data, voice and multiple devices enables operators to provide converged solutions to end users,” said Gerd Pasedag, CEO, SHC. “With such solutions, consumers can stay in touch with family and friends, stay up to date with the most current events and can also manage both their personal and business lives. Both the Gigaset S450 IP cordless phone and the Gigaset SX762 WLAN dsl gateway enable consumers to enjoy the intimacy of voice along with the convenience of data, personalizing how and when they will communicate.”
