TippingPoint Wins 2006 Global Product Excellence Award

TippingPoint, a division of 3Com and the leader in intrusion prevention, announced Info Security Products Guide, one of the leading publications on security-related technologies, has named the TippingPoint X505 the winner of the Global Excellence in Integrated Security Appliance Customer Trust 2006 Award. More than 18,000 end users and prospective customers worldwide were invited to vote for the awards.

"This award is one of the highest honors because it is voted on by our readers, who are comprised of actual end-users and prospective buyers of security products," said Rick Justice, chief technology editor at Info Security Products Guide. "The TippingPoint X505 really stood out because it was the first integrated security platform built with intrusion prevention system (IPS) technology with the additional features of firewall, VPN, bandwidth management, Web content filtering, and dynamic routing."

The underlying architecture of the TippingPoint X505 is the award-winning TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System, which blocks a plethora of worms, viruses, Trojans, Denial of Service attacks, Spyware, Phishing, VoIP threats and other attacks. The TippingPoint X505 is regularly updated with preemptive vulnerability and zero day threat protection through the TippingPoint Digital Vaccine(R) service.

"Info Security Products Guide's recognition of the TippingPoint X505 further validates our strategy and vision to build an all-in-one security platform based on intrusion prevention architecture," said TippingPoint Vice President of Marketing Greg Fitzgerald. "The TippingPoint X505 was launched in November 2005 to add intelligence into the network by performing total packet flow inspection to block malicious traffic, throttle non-essential traffic, and prioritize mission-critical traffic."

TippingPoint launched the first Intrusion Prevention System in 2002, and continues to pioneer the market:

-- The TippingPoint 5000E was recently certified by ICSA Labs as having the highest throughput and lowest latency of the 10 IPS products tested.

-- Quarantine Protection was launched earlier this year, using the IPS as a network-based method of securing end points.

-- TippingPoint formed the Zero Day Initiative, www.zerodayinitiative.com, in order to find and eliminate zero day threats. Over 400 researchers have signed up for this program.

-- TippingPoint launched the Voice over IP Security Alliance, www.voipsa.org, and chairs the organization, which consists of over 100 members.

-- The TippingPoint vulnerability research team is world-renowned for their work as co-authors of the SANS' RISK vulnerability newsletter, the most-widely distributed and leading source of vulnerability information for security professionals.

-- TippingPoint is the most decorated Intrusion Prevention System in the industry: http://www.tippingpoint.com/products_certifications.html.
