Proxim Wireless Solutions Launch for Nebraska School Districts

Proxim Wireless Corporation, a global provider of broadband wireless equipment and wholly-owned subsidiary of Terabeam, Inc., announced that its outdoor broadband wireless products have been deployed to support several school districts in the State of Nebraska, improving access to the Internet and increasing student and staff productivity while cutting costs. Communication Services, Inc., a Platinum Partner of Proxim Wireless, has designed, installed, and maintains services on these networks.

Across the United States, school districts face increasing demand for bandwidth for applications ranging from high-speed Internet access to computer-based teacher training. Given ongoing budget pressures, these organizations are looking beyond traditional connectivity. Through advancements in its broadband wireless technologies, Proxim together with partners has created solutions to these challenges by deploying high-speed wireless networks that enable all schools in one district to share Internet connectivity, distributed software applications, and even voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Each wireless link provides several times more bandwidth than the traditional leased wireline circuit and delivers substantial savings by eliminating the recurring charge for the circuit. The school districts have realized numerous benefits, including more robust Internet access for students and the ability for teachers to receive in-service training and do other types of training on a distributed rather than centrally located basis. Communications Services, Inc. has deployed such networks for a number of school districts to date in Nebraska, and continues to work with additional districts to bring similar benefits to them.
