UHS Broadens IP-Based Alarm Monitoring in the U.S.

Two additional alarm monitoring companies have chosen UHS Systems, Inc. to provide wholesale, Internet Protocol (IP)-based alarm monitoring service to their customers. The contracts make IP-based alarm monitoring more widely available in the United States. Terms of both contracts were undisclosed. UHS Systems offers broadband IP security alarm services, video event verification, live remote video viewing and digital wireless back-up solutions to its customers, and is the American subsidiary of the Australian broadband company UHS Systems Pty Ltd.

UHS will provide IP-based alarm monitoring solutions to authorized dealers of Central Alarm Control (CAC), a 25-year veteran in the alarm monitoring industry located in South Miami, Fla. and Alarm Center, Inc. of Lacey, Wash. Both contracts allow the companies to offer IP security alarm monitoring for customers who have a broadband service connection or need a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) security solution. UHS provides alarm dealers with high-quality, IP-based alarm monitoring capabilities by supporting monitoring agencies such as CAC and Alarm Center, Inc.

"We want to give all of our customers the same high level of service, regardless of whether they use a traditional phone line or a VoIP connection," said Russ Jones Sr., President of CAC. "The UHS product works really well in this space and allows us to monitor the alarm systems of customers using VoIP just as well as those using a traditional phone service."

"UHS' service is very versatile, offering our customers monitoring on VoIP, cellular, and traditional telephone lines, which allows us to use a single service to provide a comprehensive solution to our customers," said Doug Beaulieu, President of Alarm Center, Inc. "We've had great experience with the service and with UHS' executives, and trust that their service, coupled with the redundancy and reliability provided by AT&T's Internet Data Center where the service is located, offers us the most secure service for us to provide to our customers."

UHS' IP security alarm service meets the changing needs of home and business owners that choose to use VoIP as their primary means of communication, allowing them to maintain critical alarm functionality. UHS' UltraSec(TM) network allows any alarm system to send and receive alarm monitoring data and integrated video alarm events over any broadband connection, eliminating the need for a traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) telephone line.

"Property owners choosing broadband as their primary communications channel must ensure the compatibility with their security alarm system," said Jack McCurdy, General Manager of UHS' U.S. operations. "UHS Systems' UltraSec service provides the needed compatibility, encryption and reliability to ensure that monitoring agencies can receive notice when a customer's alarm is triggered and dispatch appropriate assistance in an emergency. Our IP services also offer advanced monitoring options, such as integrated video event monitoring and real-time event viewing, which offers added security for customers and new revenue streams for security companies that choose UHS."

UHS Systems' IP-based security alarm service can operate on any type of broadband connection and includes a digital wireless backup system, protecting customers from loss of service due to broadband outages, and an integrated video alarm event with live remote viewing capability, enabling seamless video monitoring and premise surveillance for the security alarm industry.
