Bivio Networks Launches Linux-Based Bivio 500

Bivio Networks(TM), a leading supplier of next-generation application-oriented networking platforms, today announced the launch of the Bivio 500(TM), a new advanced network appliance designed from the ground up to enable wire-speed execution of Linux network applications at multi-Gigabit speeds. With the Bivio 500, Bivio continues to reshape the networking landscape by allowing Linux network applications to entrench themselves in the emerging multi-Gigabit network infrastructure as a de-facto standard, bringing the benefits of open architectures to a market that has been traditionally constricted by proprietary solutions.

Radically departing from traditional computing architectures, the Bivio architecture enables packet handling application developers to deliver their applications at performance levels previously reserved to specialized hardware or ASIC-based designs, while maintaining the benefits of open, easily portable software development. Leveraging the architecture and technology found in the Bivio 2000 flagship product, the Bivio 500 delivers true Gigabit performance for any Linux-based networking applications at any packet size, vastly outperforming traditional appliance technologies.

By using the Bivio 2000 and Bivio 500 as a hardware foundation for their own network appliance product offerings, Bivio OEM partners can dramatically lower product development costs and accelerate the delivery of critical next generation IP service applications in the areas of security, traffic management, load balancing, performance monitoring, IPv6, VOIP, routing and communications infrastructure in a standard Linux execution environment.

"Our partners find they can significantly accelerate their time to market with Bivio architecture, and the Bivio 500 provides a high-performance, entry-scale platform to get started," said Elan Amir, president and CEO of Bivio Networks. "Our unique, innovative model provides a foundation that allows our partners to establish market leadership in their chosen application areas."

With a packet handling market expected to exceed $10 billion by 2007 and increasing demands for intelligent deep-packet processing of multi-Gigabit network traffic, Bivio Networks is ahead of the pack delivering state-of-the art technology optimized for wire-speed execution of emerging network services.

"This announcement underscores our long-standing commitment to continually develop and deliver next generation network appliances that enable innovative, converged IP services running on open Linux solutions," said Amir.

The Bivio 500 is priced starting at $8,000 and is available immediately. Bivio will showcase the Bivio 500 platform at the LinuxWorld 2005 Conference and Expo in San Francisco on August 8-11 at booth #986.
