D2 Technologies has joined with
GCT Semiconductor to deliver VoIP over WiMAX for mobile devices based on the Android and Linux operating systems. D2’s breakthrough mCUE converged communications client and its industry-leading vPort embedded VoIP engine power two reference designs incorporating GCT’s GDM7205, the world’s first mobile WiMAX IEEE 802.16e Wave 2-compliant chip solution. The combined solutions offer OEMs and ODMs a faster and more economical way to deliver a range of WiMAX mobile devices to market with broad VoIP and IP communications capabilities.
GCT’s compact, single-chip GDM7205 offers a flexible architecture coupled with ultra low power, ideally suited to satisfy the high demands of multimedia processing and wireless connectivity. When integrated with D2’s vPort software platform, it provides all of the components necessary for manufacturers to quickly bring dual mode Wi-Fi and WiMAX enabled mobile devices to market. vPort’s advanced VoIP functionality includes voice quality assurance technology such as jitter buffer and packet loss compensation, and enables rich voice features achieved with minimal memory and CPU impact. mCUE enables today’s most in-demand applications and features including Skype™ interoperability, video call/chat, seamless call handover and HD voice.
